ANCHORAGE SCHOLASTIC BOWLING LEAGUE 2007 - 2008 SEASON
Opening Ceremonies and competition begin Thursday, November 1st, 2007 at 3:30 p.m. at Park Lanes for varsity high school bowling in Anchorage.
The high school bowling program in its eighth season will offer competition at the varsity level and will field boy's and girl's teams from Bartlett, Chugiak, Dimond, Eagle River, East, Service, South and West high schools. For bowlers not on the varsity squad, Open Division tournaments from all grade levels will compete in 5 exciting bowling tournaments for individual and team awards.
Some of the highlights include:
* The opportunity for students to represent their schools and communities in a competitive "lifetime" sport;
* Learning to bowl and compete under a quality program with qualified, professionally trained instructors;
* Participation in weekly practices and 10 interscholastic league matches against other High Schools at the varsity level;
* Participation in weekly practices and 5 monthly tournaments at the Open division level;
* Varsity teams are limited to 8 bowlers while the Open division teams have a "no-cut" policy;
* Open division teams are still welcoming high school students to the program with no prior bowling experience;
* An opportunity to meet other bowlers from other schools and to travel to many different bowling centers;
* Minimal participation fee's for uniforms, practice, and meet bowling;
* Varsity and Open division competition from November through February with a season ending banquet;
* Awards and trophies will be given for outstanding performances;
* $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to a varsity boy and a varsity girl bowler from the Thomas Kogane Scholarship Fund.
* Sharing in a great high school experience, where fun and teamwork will be combined with learning more about a great sport you can enjoy the rest of your life;
